Following the dinner, Senator Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano North) took to his X handle (formerly known as Twitter) to appreciate President Tinubu for hosting the Senator which he described as “historic”
He said, “Yesterday, together with the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio and our distinguished colleagues, we had the honour and privilege to be hosted by the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the State House for the breaking of the Ramadan fast.
“In my remark, I thanked His Excellency for hosting us and I described the event as historic.”
Barau recalled his first encounter with President Tinubu in Saudi Arabia, which was about 20 years ago, while he was still in the House of Representatives and Tinubu was serving his first term as the governor of Lagos State.
“We met in Arafat during the Hajj of that year together with some of my colleagues in the House of Representatives – all of us from the Northern part of the country.
“The person that was leading us then said we should go and meet the governor of Lagos State and we went to him.
“One after the other, we introduced ourselves. He was very very friendly, very courteous and generous. Then we said ‘This is the kind of leaders we need in this country. This man can be anything in this country and now he is the President of our country.
“So, Mr President, we are not surprised by this and when we started this Ramadan we prayed at the National Assembly for Nigeria and prayed for the president so that God will continue to protect him as he works hard to reset our country to the path of progress and prosperity.
“May Almighty Allah continue to guide him in his quest to address the challenges facing our country,” he added.
