Gusau said funds provided by FIFA to prepare teams for the tournament cannot be used to pay outstanding allowances for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has informed that all allowances and bonuses relating to Super Falcons had been cleared as of Friday last week.

Gusau, stated this when he finally appeared before the Ad- hoc committee investigating the non-payment of allowances of the super falcons.

Recall that the NFF boss was summoned a second time by the committee following his refusal to honor the previous invitation.

Gusau, however, informed that no fund was released by the government to the Falcons, adding that for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, $960,000 was given to all 32 countries that qualified and participated in the game.

According to him, the preparation money provided by FIFA was to be used by these countries to prepare the teams for the World Cup. “We can’t use this money to pay outstanding allowances for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup”.

Dissatisfied, the chairperson of the committee, Rep. Blessing Onuh, questioned how the NFF was able to fund the Super Falcons in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted by France.

She consequently ruled that documents showing how the Super Falcons were funded for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the breakdown of match bonuses payments as well as slips for 23 players and the coaching crew be provided to the committee by NFF on or before 30th August 2023.
