The House of Representatives has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide adequate security and manpower for government officials and infrastructure in flashpoints across South East and Nigeria.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance, sponsored by Rep. Emeka Nnamani (LP, Abia) at Thursday’s plenary.
In his debate, Nnamani noted that the violent attack by hoodlums in South Eastern Nigeria had assumed a very dangerous trend as attacks on highly placed Nigerians were escalating at an increased proportion.
The lawmaker, who worried that if such a trend is not quickly nipped in the bud, it could result in threats to governments, personnel, and others at all levels, also said that security was usually inadequate, especially at flash points of insecurity in Nigeria.
