Lawmakers pass legislation aimed at curtailing extravagant spending in marriage, naming, circumcision and other local ceremonies across the State

 

 

 

The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Tuesday, passed a bill seeking to regulate extravagant spending in marriage, naming, circumcision and other local ceremonies across the State.

At a plenary session presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Abubakar Magaji, the lawmakers unanimously adopted the report presented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Religious Affairs, paving way for a passage of the bill into law.

According to the Chairman of the Committee, its members had met with necessary stakeholders who made various positive contributions that were captured in the piece of legislation sponsored by Faruk Balle (PDP, Gudu) and Abubakar Shehu (APC, Yabo).
