The Senate adjourned the session with the Service Chiefs so it could invite other officials to be present at the next interactive session
The Senate has adjourned its interactive session with the service chiefs on insecurity to February 13, 2024, to ensure other relevant parties are present.
The security chiefs had appeared before the Senate to address the rising insecurity in the country but the decision to invite other relevant parties resulted in the Senate shifting it to a later date.
OrderPaper recalls that the Senate last week, resolved to invite the service chiefs this week for an inquisitive session on the state of insecurity nationwide and to ensure rapid progress in the security and economy of the Country.

This followed a collective motion by the 109 Senators, presented by Senator Bamidele on Tuesday during plenary as the Senate observed a minute of silence for those who lost their lives so far.
The President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio had initially welcomed the service chiefs who were present before the lawmakers before suggesting that the adjourn till next week to invite other responsible parties.
According to him, it was important to invite the Minister of Defence, Minister of State for Defence, Minister of Police Affairs, Minister of State for Police Affairs, Minister of Interior, Minister of Finance, the National Security Adviser amongst others.
He said, “We received reports that even security officials have lost their lives in the course of struggling nad fighting to bring the situation under control.
“While we welcome you, we want you to know that it is not because we are passing the buck or blaming any of you for anything.
“We believe you are doing your best, we want to hear from you and also make contributions on how to improve the situation.
“We recieved apologies from the National Security Adviser that he us in a bilateral discussion with the representative of security chiefs from United Kingdom.
“While we welcome you, we believe the team is not yet complete, I don’t know if the Senate will want to proceed but my personal opinion would be that we would like to have with you the Chief of Defence Staff.
“We would also like to have the National Security Adviser, Minister of Defence, Minister of State for Defence, Minister of Police Affairs, Minister of State for Police Affairs, Minister of Interior, Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of Economy,” he added.
The motion to adjourn the security briefing by the service chiefs was therafter moved by the leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) and was seconded by the minority leader of Senate, Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South)
The Senate therafter suspended its next plenary for tomorrow, Thursday, 7 February, 2024 to Tuesday 13 February, 2024.
