Lalong is a former governor of Plateau State and, until his swearing-in, served as minister of labour, employment and productivity
The Senate has sworn in Simon Bako Lalong of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly.
He was sworn in on Wednesday during plenary to replace Senator Napoleon Bali of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Recall that Napoleon Bali was also serving his first term. However, the elections petitions tribunal sitting in Jos sacked him and declared Lalong, who is a former governor of the state, as winner of the vote.
His tribunal victory was on the grounds that the previous results of the election did not reflect the will of the people and refusal to carry out lawful order of court.
Prior to joining politics, the 59-year-old had a career in the military, where he retired as the Air Vice Marshal (AVM) in the Nigeria Airforce.
Lalong leaves his position as minister of labour, employment and productivity to take a seat in the Senate.
Prior to his swearing in, he had resigned from the Federal Executive Council, where he served for about three months.
Speaking after his swearing-in, Lalong promised to continue to serve his people by providing quality representation in the red chamber.
“My constituents will not be disappointed in me,” Lalong assured.
