Senate President, Akpabio names COS, DCOS in first set of appointments

President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has announced his first set of appointments since his assumption of office; naming Sylvester Okonkwo and Dr Saviour Enyiekere as his Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff, respectively.

According to a statement from Akpabio’s media office, Okonkwo, who is a corporate lawyer, is an alumnus of  Dennìs Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha and the University of Nigeria where he bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B. Hons. B.L).

A native of Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, he has more than two decades of experience as a politician and was a Senatorial Aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019. Happily married to Chidiebele Okonkwo LL.B, (Hons.) B.L. with kids, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer, Chinto Technologies Limited; an ICT and telecommunications outfit, before his appointment.

The Deputy Chief of Staff, Saviour Enyiekere (PhD), is an alumnus of the University of Calabar and erstwhile Deputy Director-General of the Godswill Akpabio Senatorial Campaign Organisation. 

A native of Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Enyiekere is happily married with kids and a member of the Nigerian Environmental Society. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria and a Professional Fellow of the Emergency Crisis, Risk and Safety Management Institute of Nigeria.

The new Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President has also participated actively in politics; serving previously as two-term Executive Chairman of Ika Local Government Area, Senior Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Government on Boundaries and Conflict Resolutions, as well as Board Member, Akwa Ibom State Road Maintenance Agency. The former Student Leader is also a former Senatorial Aspirant who ran for the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial seat.
