Senator Yar’adua said the recent abduction of the students is a clear indication of the escalating insecurity in the country.

The lawmaker representing Katsina Central Senatorial District, Senator Abdul’aziz Musa Yar’Adua, has called for an urgent rescue of female students abducted from the Federal University of Gusau, Zamfara State.

Recall that the students were abducted from their hostel by unidentified bandits on Friday.

Reacting to the development, Senator Yar’Adua, who chairs the Senate Committee on Army while lamenting the incident, charged security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of the young girls from captivity.

In a statement issued late Sunday, the Katsina lawmaker expressed concern over the growing menace of banditry and insurgency in the country, particularly the abduction of law-abiding citizens.

He bemoaned the severity of the situation, adding that the recent kidnapping of the students is a clear indication of the escalating insecurity in the country.

“This is a moment that demands swift and decisive action. We cannot underestimate the trauma and anguish that these young girls and their families are experiencing right now,” he stressed.

While he stressed that the menace tarnishes the nation’s image and affects the collective conscience of Nigerians, Yar’adua called on all branches of government to divert their attention to this heinous attack and ensure the safe rescue of the girls.

The lawmaker further noted the need for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to be adequately equipped and positioned to counter the threat to the nation’s unity, peace, and progress.

“The focus is on strengthening security forces, equipping them adequately, providing training, and enhancing intelligence gathering to effectively counter these threats and ensure the swift rescue of the kidnapped students.”

Additionally, Yar’adua charged the Nigerian government to intensify its efforts in addressing broader security challenges affecting the nation, pledging his unwavering support and resources as the head of the Committee on Army in the Red Chamber.
