2023: ‘Vote for APC or be dealt with’ – Reps Leader, Doguwa to constituents
The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has come under heavy criticisms over his alleged threat to his constituents to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on election day or be dealt with.
According to a video obtained by DAILY NIGERIAN on Monday, Doguwa who is seeking to return to the green chamber for a record seventh term as representative of Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency, spoke mainly in Hausa.
“To God who made me, on election day, you must vote for APC or we deal with you. I’m saying it again: on election day you either vote for APC, or we deal with you. Repeat after me, in Doguwa you either vote for APC or we deal with you,” he said amidst a chorus of applause at the political rally in Kano.

CBN: Buhari writes Senate, wants Aishah Ahmed, Adamu confirmed as Deputy Governors
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Nigerian Senate to confirm Aishah Ahmed and Edward Adamu as Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The president’s request was contained in a letter read on Tuesday by the President of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan during plenary.
President Buhari is requesting that the Senate confirm the nominees to serve at the apex bank for a second and final term.
Reps give nod to Bill criminalising abandonment of children across Nigeria
The House of Representatives on Tuesday gave a nod to a bill seeking to make the abandonment of newly born babies by parents a crime punishable by law at the time and place of birth.
Sponsored by Rep. Sergius Ogun (PDP, Edo State), the legislation titled, ‘A Bill for an Act to Amend the Child Rights Act, Cap. C50, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to impose sanction on any parent who abandons a new born child and absconds after birth; and for Related Matters (HB. 1442),’ seeks to amend the Child Rights Act and give it strength of enforcement.
During a debate on the general principles of a bill, lawmakers expressed support for the proposed punishment which makes anyone found guilty of the offence liable to a fine of two hundred thousand naira, imprisonment for six months, or both upon conviction.
Four years after President’s decline, Reps pass Nigerian Peace Corps Bill
The House of Representatives has again passed a bill seeking legal backing to the establishment of the Nigerian Peace Corps as a government parastatal and to facilitate peace and security in local communities and neighbourhoods.
President Muhammadu Buhari had in February 2018, withheld his assent to the Bill, citing security concerns as well as financial constraints in funding the organisation by the government as his reasons for his decision.
The Bill was however reintroduced and re-gazetted as HB. 17 in July 2019 while a consolidated version was passed by the Senate on Tuesday, 12th April 2022.
Body of Benchers warns National Assembly against proliferation of Law School Campuses
The Body of Benchers (BOB) has cautioned the National Assembly against its proposal to regulate the establishment of Law School Campuses in the country.
Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) in issuing caution on Tuesday in Abuja while admitting 4,691 new lawyers at the Call to Bar ceremony, noted that Law School campuses cannot be established without clearance from the Council of Legal Education.
“What we need now is the improvement and upgrading of the existing Law School campuses, using the newly commissioned Graham Douglas Law School Campus, Port Harcourt, built and equipped by the Rivers State Government as a model. I dare say that it is the best in the country for now,” Olanipekun said.
