The House of Reps has adjourned plenary until February 6, 2024, to allow interested lawmakers to participate in Bye-Elections set to be held on Saturday, February 3, 2026.
The House of Representatives has adjourned plenary till February 6, 2024, for the bye-elections and re-runs which will held on Saturday across 26 states.
The speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas (APC, Kaduna), announced this at the plenary on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
This plenary is the first resumption of the House in 2024 after the earlier scheduled January 23 date was extended by one week.
Speaking to the lawmakers who have just resumed after a 30-day recess, the speaker said the House had to take another one-week recess to enable lawmakers who wish to assist their colleagues in the campaigns to travel down to their various constituencies.
He said, “This coming Saturday there will be bye-elections in some constituencies across the country, and in view of that, some members who would like to travel back to their constituency to campaign and assist their colleagues.
“So we find it expedient to further adjourn plenary until next week Tuesday, February 6, 2024. This is to allow members who are interested in travelling to their states to do so.”
