- Senate silences Ireti over clash with Wike
During the days plenary, on the second order of the day was a report from the Committee on FCT on the 98.5bn FCT Supplementary Appropriation Bill.
However, opposing the consideration of this report, embattled Senator Ireti Kingibe (LP, FCT) raised a point of order coming under order 10 and 11. She lamented that as the only FCT Senator, she was never informed of the supplementary bill and that committee members never involved her in the process.
While speaking, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio immediately ruled her out of order for coming under a wrong order, depriving her of the opportunity to air her views. According to him, the order she moved demanded that she present a motion to the House. He thereafter asked her to present the motion tomorrow.
The Senate immediately resolved into the committee on supply to consider the clauses of the bill and immediately passed it.
The passage of this bill clearly means that Ireti’s motion might no longer be taken as the House has also embarked on a recess.
