The House of Representatives has resolved to probe alleged lopsidedness in the recruitment process of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

This resolution followed the adoption of a motion on NEITI and NUPRC and Lopsided Recruitment/Employment sponsored by Rep. Ibrahim Muhammed Hafiz Kawu.

The lawmakers who said they were aware that both agencies have embarked on multiple recruitment/employment, decried the lack of fairness and equity in the recruitment/employment process, noting that it concentrated on a particular state/region of the country without recourse to the principle of the federal character.

The House noted that NEITI and NUPRC are guided and regulated by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, urging NEITI and NUPRC to cancel the recruitment/employment if it fell short of observing federal character.

The House, thereafter, mandated its Committees on Petroleum Upstream and Federal Character to investigate the alleged lopsidedness and report back within three weeks for further legislative office.
