Sixty-year-old Senator David Umahi is one of ten nominees sent by President Bola Tinubu for screening and possible confirmation by the National Assembly.
According to Section 147 (2), any appointment to the office of Minister of the Government of the Federation shall, if the nomination of any person to such office is confirmed by the Senate, be made by the President.
In the event that Senator Umahi’s nomination as Minister is confirmed by the Senate on behalf of the National Assembly, he would be joining a long list of the President’s men and women with legislative background. Interestingly, this includes the President, Vice President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) as well as the First Lady.
What then is Senator Umahi’s profile in politics, in the legislature and the executive arm of government which he is seeking a return to?
