Reps pass minimum wage bill, reduces periodic review from 5 to 3 years
The House of Representatives has passed a bill to amend the national minimum wage Act, No. 8, 2019 to increase the national minimum wage and reduce the time for periodic review from five years to three years. This was sequel to the President Bola Tinubu’s bill to increase the wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000. OrderPaper recalls that President Tinubu had agreed on ₦70,000 as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers during a meeting with organised labour last week.
Inspector General of Police gets to stay longer in office as Reps Amend Police Act 2020
A Bill for an Act to Amend the Nigeria Police Act, 2020 to enable a person appointed to the office of the Inspector General of Police to remain in office until the end of the term stipulated in the letter of appointment passed third reading on Tuesday in the House of Representatives. President Tinubu had sent the executive bill to the House, requesting swift consideration. The amendment bill proceeded through the necessary legislative stages and was passed.
Kogi Rep, Idris Salman defects from ADC to APC
The lawmaker representing Ijumu/ Kabba-Bunu federal constituency Rep. Idris Salman defected from African Democratic Party (ADC) to All Progressives Congress (APC). The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rep. Tajudeen Abbas (APC Kaduna) announced this development while reading Rep. Salman’s letter of defection during plenary on Tuesday.
