With legislative work on the 2023 Supplementary Budget dusted, OrdePaper’s Legislative Intelligence Forecast (LIFE) Service by Kauthar Anumba Khaleel, briefly highlights issues the National Assembly will take action on this week.
Foremost among the activities of The House of Representatives, this week will be the consideration of the reports of the Ad-hoc Committee on Legislative Agenda and the Ad-hoc Committee on the Review of Standing Orders of the House of Representatives.
Recall that these reports were laid on 24 October 2023, and listed for consideration the last week. It was however deferred to allow for consideration and passage of the 2023 supplementary budget.
It will also consider the following bills, A Bill for an Act to Establish Institute of Economists of Nigerian; A Bill for an Act to Amend the Public Procurement Act, No. 14, 2007 to Provide for inclusion of the Nigerian Institute of Architects in the Membership of the National Council on Public Procurement; A Bill for an Act to provide for the Co-coordinating and Conduct of the Practice of Broadcasting Profession in Nigeria; A Bill for an Act to Establish Chartered Institute of Business Administration of Nigeria; A Bill for Act to Establish the Chartered Institute of Digital Forensics of Nigeria to Regulate the Practice and provide training for members.
Also, Further legislative action will be taken on the A Bill for an Act to Regulate Corporate Social Responsibility in Nigeria; A Bill for an Act to Amend Nursing and Midwifery (Registration etc.) Act, 2004 to Review the Composition of the Council, Qualification and Tenure of Office of the Members of the Council, Review Penalty Provision and the Composition of the Tribunal and A Bill for an Act to Establish Federal College of Science and Health Technology, Mbu Isiuzo, Enugu State.

In the area of Infrastructure, it will initiate moves for the appraisal of the condition of Nigeria Federal Roads, but particularly push for the rehabilitation of the Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road and Upgrade to Trunk “A” Road; Onitsha–Aba–Nnewi Ozubulu–Okija Road Anambra State; Rehabilitation and Maintenance of Abandoned Project on Abak–Ekparakwa–Ete–Ikot Abasi Federal Road in Akwa Ibom State.
The deplorable state of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway from Abule Egba to Sango Road, the Development and Erosion Control at Wawa and Kara Section along Lagos–Ibadan Expressway as well as the Privatisation and Subsequent Abandonment of Osogbo Steel Rolling Mills will also receive the attention of the House.
Further, the Green Chamber will weigh in on the issue of drug abuse and trafficking in the Country as well as Illegal Mining in the Solid Mineral Sector.
To address the issue of insecurity in the country, the Tajudeen Abbas-led House will consider revisiting and adopting the reports of the 9th House of Representatives Special Committee on Security.
Additionally, it will deliberate on the Issuance of Certificate of Occupancy to House Owners located within Mass Housing Scheme Estate by the Federal Capital Territory as well as any other matters that may arise.
