The motion sponsor said the bandits, who are referred to as ‘Solar’ bandits, perpetrate their dastardly acts any time of the day with impunity.
The House of Representatives has tasked relevant security agencies to come up with new security tactics to tackle the persistent acts of killing, kidnapping, and other acts of insecurity in affected parts of the country.
The charge follows the adoption of a motion by Rep. Aliyu Abubakar (APC, Katsina) at Thursday’s plenary.
Rep. Abubakar in calling for the bandits to be effectively curtailed, informed the House that there were multiple attacks, shootings, killings, and kidnapping of people in Babbanduhu and Kitawa villages in Safana Local Government Area of the state.
He also listed Nahuta, Yangayya, and Dankar villages in Batsari Local Government as well as other villages in Danmusa Local Government as areas where the marauding activities of the bandits was been felt.

The Katsina lawmaker explained that the bandits left many dead, wounded, and many others kidnapped, adding that there are people receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina, while others are still in the captivity of the bandits.
He also noted that the bandits that operate freely in the area are referred to as ‘Solar’ bandits and others wreak havoc any time of the day with impunity on a daily basis.
“My people in these areas have left their homes and farms. They can no longer farm or trade. This poses the danger of a food crisis in the Constituency.
Honourable Speaker sir, out of six district heads in the Constituency, only two live in their domains while others live either in Katsina or Kano. And again, out of 60 village or ward heads, only less than 10 village heads live in their area also. Yantumaki District Head was attacked and killed in his home palace a while.
Also, my own brother who was a village head was attacked and shot in the head leading to his death. His wife and youngest child were kidnapped and I have to pay N2, 000,000.00 (Two Million Naira) ransom for their release,” he lamented.
