INEC Chairman has said that the commission would soon announce dates for bye-elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced vacancies in several constituencies across Nigeria following the death or resignation of members.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, revealed the affected constituencies during a quarterly consultative meeting with media executives.

Among the constituencies affected are the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency in Jigawa State, left vacant by the passing of Hon. Isa Dogonyaro; Khana 2 State Constituency in Rivers State; Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency in Kano State, and Zaria Kewaye State Constituency in Kaduna State.

Prof. Yakubu assured that the commission would soon announce dates for bye-elections in these constituencies once preparations are finalized.

In addition to these vacancies, INEC is actively working to conclude outstanding re-run elections in Enugu South 1 State Constituency in Enugu State and Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency in Kano State. These elections were marred by violence and thuggery back in February, prompting a need for remobilization.

The commission also urged media organizations to play a pivotal role in mobilizing Nigerians, especially in Edo and Ondo states, to participate in the continuous voter registration exercise ahead of off-cycle governorship elections in both states.

Furthermore, media organizations were advised to submit applications for accreditation to report on the upcoming elections, along with necessary documentation, to facilitate the timely production and delivery of identity cards for journalists.
