Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel was born on April 20, 1949, in Maigatari, Jigawa State. He holds a master’s degree in public policy and administration from Bayero University, Kano and also obtained a national diploma in accountancy from Kaduna Polytechnic.

Gumel has served in various roles, including stenographer Kano state home affairs in 1972, deputy headmaster of Gumel Gabas primary school Gumel, Jigawa State (1969- 1971), senior accountant, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Kano state from 1976 to 1979), and chief accountant at the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) national headquarters, Lagos from 1979 to 1983. Others include board member, Nigeria Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 1983, board member, Nigeria Enterprises Promotion Council (NEPC), and Kano state sports council from 1980 to 1983.

Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel entered politics and was elected to the House of Representatives in 1999, representing Gumel federal constituency, Jigawa. During his term, he chaired the House Committees on Special Duties (1999–2000) and Police Affairs (2001–2003). From 2003 to 2007, he served as a special adviser to Speaker Aminu Bello Masari on special assignments. He was elected senator for Jigawa State north-west senatorial district on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) from 2015 to 2019. Currently, he is serving as the senior special Assistant on national assembly patters to President Bola Tinubu.

Having served as a member of the national assembly, Gumel is expected to bring an extensive legislative experience and understanding of parliamentary procedures to this executive role. He is explected to play a role in facilitating communication and coordination between the executive branch and the senate, enhance the executive-legislative relationship, and ensure smooth governance and effective policy implementation.
