Barely forty-eight hours before the commencement of a customary pre-retirement leave by the incumbent Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Architect Amos Ojo; uncertainty trails the process as stakeholders raise alarm about alleged plans by the CNA to continue in office
Following the crisis rocking the leadership of the National Assembly Management over retirement, a former Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Dr Salisu Maikasuwa, has called for due process in handling the issues.
Concerned staff members and stakeholders in the National Assembly are said to have raised the alarm about plans by the incumbent Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Architect Amos Ojo to continue in office despite his scheduled pre-retirement leave which ought to commence on 14th November 2022. According to reports from the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) and the National Assembly, there are allegations that the CNA has been neck deep in a plot to circumvent the service rule by jettisoning the customary three-month pre-retirement leave preparatory to his retirement from service, having attained 35 years of service and 60 years of age.
Ojo was reported to have begged the Chairman and commissioners of the NASC not to allow him to proceed on the pre-retirement leave, causing unnecessary anxieties in the management of the National Assembly. The precedence noted by some stakeholders, points to the fact that former CNAs like Ibrahim Salim, Nasir Arab and Ogunyomi Ogunyemi all proceeded on their mandatory pre-retirement leave except for Abubakar Salisu Maikasuwa, who voluntarily left six months before his retirement.
Sani Omolori was, unfortunately, not lucky to get the privilege to proceed on such leave.
In a move to discourage setting dangerous precedence, Maikasuwa, in a letter sent to the NASC Chairman, Ahmed Kadi Amshi, has stressed the need for due process and precedence to guide the Commission in the case.
“With utmost respect and humility, I crave your kind indulgence to allow due process and precedence to prevail on the pre-retirement of Arc. Ojo, the incumbent CNA. In doing this, you will get a pass mark from Nass Staff members, Nigerians, posterity and the Almighty God. Thank you and please urgently do the needful,” he said.
Expectations are thus high that the NASC will send correspondence to the National Assembly appointing a successor to Architect Ojo or otherwise.
