Nigeria’s apex legislative chamber on Wednesday, confirmed Aishah Ndanusa Ahmad and Edward Lametek Adamu for appointment as Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for a second term as deputy governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This development follows the consideration of the Senate Committee on Banking and Finance report, barely two weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari‘s recent nomination of the duo and request for their confirmation by the Senate as deputy governors of the apex bank.
The nominees who appeared before the committee last week fielded questions on the CBN’s cashless and withdrawal limit policies, just before the Senator Uba Sani-led committee screened them.
In her response, Ahmad noted, “Agents could perform an increasing variety of transactions including cash in cash out, bill payments and even account opening. Under the CBN’s SANEF initiative, the agent network had grown to 1.4 million agents available in every local government in Nigeria.”

While presenting the report, Sani noted that they met the requirements expected of them during the screening process and moved that the Senate receive and consider the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions on the confirmation.
Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru seconded the motion, before Senator Sani laid and presented the report.
The Senate dissolved into a Committee of the Whole to consider the report and the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, who presided over the plenary, put their nominations to a vote for confirmation or otherwise. The lawmakers thereafter voted for their confirmation.
