The controversial Senator is now faced with a decision to either resign from the APC or face a possible suspension from the party.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has removed Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) from the position of senate chief whip.
The party also directed Ndume’s replacement with Senator Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North), a move that was complied with by senators of the ruling party on Wednesday during plenary.
The move against Ndume is hinged on a comment he made on national television to the effect that the President Bola Tinubu administration is run by thieves. And there may be more trouble for the controversial senator as his colleagues have called for his resignation from the party or be suspended from the fold.
This directive from the APC national secretariat was contained in a letter read on the floor of the red chamber by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday. The letter lamented the “unbecoming utterances of the chief whip.”
Shortly after reading the letter, Akpabio put the directive of the party to a voice vote and the “ayes” had it. Senator Monguno was immediately moved to the front row of the chamber to take over Senator Ndume‘s sitting position. Accordingly, all committees chaired and deputised by Sen. Ndume have also been reshuffled and reassigned to other senators.
