The death of the Kaduna State lawmaker, Rep Ekene Abubakar Adams, marks the second loss of the House of Representative in barely a week
The Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday suspended sitting to mourn the sudden demise of a colleague, Rep. Ekene Abubakar Adams. Both chambers accordingly adjourned plenary session to Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
Speaker of the House Rep. Tajudeen Abbas (APC Kaduna), announced Rep Adam’s death after accepting the votes and proceedings of Tuesday’s plenary. Abbas, while reading the notice, said: “Rep Adams was a founder of a Football club based in Kaduna, also his service in the House of Representatives attests to his versatility and steadfast commitment to the progress of our society. Honourable Adam Ekene in the House was marked by his tireless advocacy for his constituents and his contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria. Honourable Ekene was passionate to the last, demonstrating his dedication in the advancement of sports and the success of our athletes on the global stage.
“In addition to his public service, Honourable Adams was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife and children, who were his greatest sources of strength and inspiration. It is particularly poignant to note that Honourable Adam’s passing comes just days after the loss of another distinguished member, Honourable Prince Olaide Akinremi. These recent events serve as a sobering reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of cherishing each moment we have.
“ As we mourn the loss of Honourable Ikene Abubakar Adams, let us also celebrate his life, his achievements, and the lasting impact he has made on his constituency and our country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Similarly, the Senate suspended its plenary sitting in honour of late Rep. Adams who died in the early hours of the day, following a brief illness. As is the tradition, the senate shortly after convening for the day’s plenary, suspended its sitting and adjourned till Wednesday 17th July, 2024. President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who announced the demise of the lawmaker, commiserated with the family members. Immediately after the announcement of the late lawmaker, Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) moved for the senate suspends its activities for the day in honour of the late lawmaker. The Senate and the House thereafter, held a minute of silence in honour of the late lawmaker and subsequently adjourned.
Aged 39, the lawmaker until his death represented Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State. He was also the Chairman House Committee on Sports This comes barely a week after the death of Rep. Olaide Akinremi, popularly known as “Jagaban” who had passed away following a brief illness.
