Senate hails Tinubu on his emergence as ECOWAS Chairman

Tinubu became ECOWAS Chairman on Sunday, following a unanimous endorsement at the 63^rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, in Guinea Bissau.

The Senate has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on his recent emergence as the 36^th Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In a motion sponsored by Sen. Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano North) and co-sponsored by other members of leadership of the Senate at Wednesday plenary, the lawmakers said the emergence of the President as Chairman of ECOWAS of his commitment to good governance.

“With great felicitations, the emergence of the President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Tinubu, as the Chairman of ECOWAS at the recently 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS head in Bissau, capital of Republic of Guinea-Bissau.

The emergence of President Tinubu as the Chairman of ECOWAS is a testimony of his avowed commitment to good governance promised Nigeria, which the policies and decisions taken so far are yielding results and beginning to reposition our economy.

Since the establishment of ECOWAS in 1975, Nigerian has played key leadership roles particularly, in the promotion of Sub-regional security, defence to democracy and human rights, economic integration and collective response to security within the sub-region, and ECOWAS is even better placed under the chairmanship of President Bola Tinubu, GCFR in the discharge of the above mandates among others,” the lawmakers submitted.

Other Senators who supported this motion are Orji Uzor Kalu, (APC, Abia North), Simon Mwadkon (PDP, Plateau North), Rufai Hanga (NNPP, Kano Central), Adamu Aliero (PDP, Kebbi Central), Godiya Akwashiki (Nasarawa North), Sani Musa (Niger East), Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yibe North), Adams Oshiomole (APC, Edo North) and Titus Zam (APC, Benue North).
