The lawmaker representing Kano North Senatorial District, Jibrin Barau, has been elected the Deputy President of the Tenth Senate.

Jibrin, who was Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation in the Ninth National Assembly, emerged unopposed at the close of nominations by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal.

A former Member of the House of Representatives, Senator Barau was nominated by Senator-Elect, Dave Umahi who thereafter read his citation on the floor of the Senate in the election held on Tuesday.

It is noteworthy that the Kano lawmaker was the preference of his party; the All Progressives Congress (APC), after the seat was zoned to his North-West geo-political zone.
