In this Third-Year Appraisal of the Ninth National Assembly, we examine the performance of the federal legislators from the North Central geo-political zone since the inauguration of parliament in 2019.
The zone has the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and six States comprising Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau. It also has 19 Senators and a total of 49 members in the House of Representatives.

SENATE SCORECARD
Senators from FCT and the six states of the zone varied in performance in terms of bill sponsorship in the third year of the 9th National Assembly. Altogether, the North Central lawmakers sponsored a total of 211 bills, constituting 21% of the 1,009 bills sponsored in the period under review.
The performance analysis of the States in terms of bills sponsorship is shown below:

A. PRINCIPAL OFFICERS
1. Senator Phillip Tanimu Aduda (PDP, FCT), Minority Leader of the Senate who sponsored nine bills in three years
2. Senator Sabi Abdullahi (APC, Niger North), Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate who also sponsored nine bills in the period under review.
B. FEMALE SENATORS
1. Senator Nora Ladi Dadu’ut (APC, Plateau) who has sponsored a single piece of legislation since 2019.
C. EX-GOVERNORS
- Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam (PDP, Benue North East), with seven bills
- Senator Umar Tanko Al-Makura (APC, Nasarawa South) with six bills
BILLS PRODUCTIVITY (NORTH CENTRAL SENATE CAUCUS)
- Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe (APC, Kwara Central) has 15 bills. Out of the fifteen bills, one got presidential assent, six passed for concurrence and others at different stages of legislative consideration.
- Senator Mohammed Sani Musa (APC, Niger East) has sponsored 26 bills. Out of these, four were passed for concurrence and others at different stages of legislative works.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES SCORECARD
Like their counterparts in the Senate, the members of the House of Representatives from the North Central geo-political zone also recorded varied performances in terms of bill sponsorship.
Members from this zone accounted for 260 bills which constitute 13.12% of the total of 1,979 bills sponsored by the lawmakers in the Green Chamber.
