The confirmation of Lieutenant-General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede for appointment as Chief of Army Staff and the debate and passage of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) were the issues addressed in the senate Tuesday.

Senate confirms Oluyede as COAS

The senate has confirmed the nomination of Lieutenant-General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede for appointment as Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The confirmation followed the consideration of reports from the committee on Army chaired by Sen. Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, (APC, Katsina Central). Lieutenant-General Oluyede was appointed to act as the Chief of Army Staff following the illness and subsequent death of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

Senate approves budget benchmarks for 2025-2027

The Senate has approved the 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) ahead of the presentation of the 2025 Budget by President Bola Tinubu. The approval followed the consideration of a report by the joint committee on finance and national planning and economic affairs on the 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) during Tuesday’s plenary.

The recommendations were  presented by the chairman of the joint committee, Sen. Sani Musa (APC, Niger East) and thereafter passed. Recall also that the House of Representatives presented the report of the joint committee last Wednesday and subsequently passed the MTEF/FSP.
