OrderPaper not celebrated enough, says House of Reps spokesman

Stakeholders within the legislative space have lauded OrderPaper for its impactful reporting and incisive analysis on parliamentary processes in Nigeria.

The spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jnr, (APC, Ekiti) has praised OrderPaper for its detailed, precise and accurate reporting within the Nigerian legislative space. He made this recognition at virtual conversation hosted by OrderPaper to commemorate the Global Legislative Openness Week (GLOW) 2024 tagged Legislative Accountability 101: Let’s talk 10th National Assembly’s first year.

The Global Legislative Openness Week (GLOW) is an annual celebration focused on enhancing transparency and participatory governance in parliaments. The annual commemoration which started in 2014 as an initiative of the Open Parliament E-network (OPEN) has fostered global collaboration among governments, civil society, and parliaments to promote accountability and citizen engagement.

Commending OrderPaper at the event, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jnr, who is also Chairman House committee on Media and Public affairs, affirmed that it is a great delight to see the impact of the work done by the OrderPaper team. He acknowledged OrderPaper’s meticulous work, stating it brings him joy and emphasizes the need for greater recognition of their contributions to democracy. “You are not celebrated enough for what you’re doing for democracy in Nigeria,” he enthused.

Also speaking at the OPEN (Online Parliamentary Engagements Nigeria) space which held on X (formerly Twitter), Seun Onigbinde, Global Director BudgIT, echoed this sentiment affirming that OrderPaper’s efforts remain undervalued. He appreciated OrderPaper for the work it currently does in the legislative space stating that their efforts are highly under recognized and under appreciated.

The Space, which lasted for almost two hours, addressed key issues such as clarifying roles of lawmakers, constituency office importance, and stakeholder collaboration, underscoring the significance of transparency in governance as part of the GLOW 2024 celebrations.

OrderPaper periodically convenes the OPEN space on X for key stakeholders, especially Members of Parliament (MPs), civil societies and citizens to engage on critical national issues. The GLOW edition featured speakers like Opeyemi Adamolekun, executive director of Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria, and Rep. Akin Alabi, Chairman, House Committee on Works, as well as Rep. Rotimi, Jr. and Mr. Onigbinde. It was moderated by Oke Epia, Founder/Executive Director of OrderPaper Nigeria.
