The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has congratulated Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Nigeria on the emergence of its new leadership.

This commendation was conveyed in a statement by Chris Ochonu, assistant director of communications & stakeholders’ management. The statement highlighted the optimism following PWYP’s recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the transparent electoral process that resulted in the election of NEITI Board member. Dr. Erisa Danladi Sarki as the new national coordinator.

Ochonu emphasized that Danladi‘s election reflects PWYP’s confidence in her leadership abilities, especially after her selection by the civil society constituency to represent civil society on NEITI’s National Stakeholders Working Group (NSWG)

He extended congratulations on behalf of the NEITI Board and affirmed NEITI’s commitment to collaborate with PWYP’s new leadership to enhance public engagement and oversight in the extractive sector.

Reacting to the new development, the Executive Secretary of NEITI, Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, commended all leaders of PWYP for identifying the leadership challenges civil societies battle with especially in the last five years, and for providing strategic solutions during the recently concluded AGM.

He also congratulated the new leadership of the group and urged the team to focus on reconciliation and rebuilding relationships with former allies noting that “the task before the new National Coordinator, Dr. Danladi, is to begin the process of reconciliation, repairing, rebuilding, and repositioning PWYP Nigeria to regain its lost allies, friends, and partners.”

Dr. Orji further advised that PWYP restore the vision of its founding fathers and reclaim its rightful position as a leading civil society organization (CSO) in the extractive industries transparency initiative (EITI) process globally through constructive engagement.

He thereafter reaffirmed NEITI’s commitment to working closely with Dr. Danladi and the new leadership of PWYP to promote transparency, accountability, and sustainable development in Nigeria’s extractive industries.
