Like some lawmakers before her, Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan turns appointment of legislative aides into empowerment projects for constituents
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP Kogi) has appointed 100 constituency aides to support her legislative responsibilities.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Friday June 28, 2024, by her chief press secretary. The statement stated that the decision aims to reduce poverty and encourage self-reliance among her constituents.
OrderPaper recalls that in 2020, Senator Bulus Amos from the 9th Assembly appointed 118 legislative aides claiming that the “massive appointments” is part of his “empowerment drive aimed at reducing joblessness, youth restiveness, thuggery and other social vices.”
Similarly, Senator Saliu Mustapha, (APC, Kwara Central) appointed 70 legislative aides claiming that their potentials will assist him in realising his legislative objectives.

The senator had also made this announcement via her Facebook page where she disclosed that the aides have been selected from the wards in 57 Kogi central senatorial district.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who noted that the appointments have been made without bias toward political affiliations, said the persons from diverse professional and artisanal backgrounds, including young and old men and women, were picked for the job, adding that each aide will receive N50,000 for community projects as a form of empowerment.
She said: “As the Senator for Kogi Central District, I felt it was important to enlist the support of 100 energetic individuals from all 57 wards of Kogi Central to bolster our representation. These individuals, comprising people of all ages and from various professional and artisan backgrounds, not only cover the geographical expanse of our communities but also bring diverse skill sets. They will receive a monthly salary for my tenure as their senator in the National Assembly, with the first salary to be disbursed on June 30, 2024.”
