The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced that President Bola Tinubu has signed the new national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” into law.
This historic moment was revealed during a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives, marking 25 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria.
Senator Akpabio, in his address, expressed gratitude to the president for the symbolic gesture. He praised President Tinubu for taking the nation back to its roots, highlighting the anthem’s message: “Though our tribes and tongues may differ, in brotherhood we stand.”
President Tinubu made a brief appearance at the joint session to celebrate the milestone of Nigeria’s democratic journey. In his remarks, he appreciated the lawmakers for their leadership and commitment to representing the people’s voices. He emphasized that the new national anthem reflects the nation’s diversity and unity.
“The singing of the new national anthem speaks to our diversity and represents how well we blend together,” President Tinubu stated. He urged the legislative chambers to continue working collaboratively, emphasizing that no external aid could substitute for the collective effort needed to build the nation.
“Let us build a nation not only for us but for generations unborn,” the president remarked, calling for sustained dedication to Nigeria’s growth and development.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas appreciated the president saying “The National Assembly is happy with your scorecard, it has been a win-win between the National Assembly and the Executive”
