The committee is set to investigate all financial transactions, loans, grants, and project executions of Kaduna between 2015 and 2023 of the past administration of former Governor El-Rufai.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has established a fact-finding committee to investigate the finances, loans, and contract projects granted during the tenure of former Governor Nasiru El-Rufai.

OrderPaper recalls that on March 30, at a town hall meeting Governor Uba Sani who was OrderPaper’s Most Valuable Parliamentarian (MVP) in the 9th Assembly revealed that he inherited a huge debt burden from the past administration making it difficult to pay workers’ salaries.

“Despite the huge debt burden of 587 million dollars, 85 billion naira, and N115 billion in contractual liabilities sadly inherited from the previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development.

“We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly,”  Sani said.

However, on Tuesday a motion of urgent public importance on the spending by the last administration of the state was moved by Mugu Yusuf, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Kaura Constituency and was adopted by other members at the sitting presided over by the Speaker, Yusuf Liman.

After deliberations, the speaker said the ad-hoc committee would investigate abandoned projects and foreign loans received by the previous administration as state residents have the right to be in the know about the financial position of the state.

The House mandated the committee to summon prominent figures, including former speakers of the 8th and 9th Assembly, commissioners of finance, former managing directors of Kaduna MDAs, senior counsellor Jimi Lawal and former commissioners of budget and planning to appear before it.

The speaker added that those to be summoned are expected to shed light on crucial details that could facilitate the recovery of funds earmarked for projects that were not completed.

The ad-hoc committee is chaired by Lawal Aminu (Doka/Gabasawa constituency), the members include Mugu Yusuf (Kaura constituency), House Majority Leader Munira Tanimu; and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Shehu Pambegua.
