The Senate postponed the interactive session with the CBN Governor to meet with service chiefs and address security issues facing the country.
The Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions has postponed its interactive session with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso till Friday 9th at 9 am.
This was announced by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru (APC, Lagos East) on Tuesday at the committee meeting, stating that the postponement of the interactive session was due to the CBN Governor being held at the House of Representatives in trying to address some economic issues.
OrderPaper recalls that the Committee in response to the Naira’s collapse to N1,520 to the US dollar summoned the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso to speak on the status of the economy and the free flow of Naira on the foreign exchange market.

Speaking at the committee meeting, Abiru said, “As planned, our plan for today was to have a session with the CBN and the essence of the duty has to do with the current economic situation in the country.
“Now somehow the CBN Governor has been held back in the House of Reps also trying to do some sort of consultation with them regarding the situation of the economy as well.
“We sense perhaps they’re just rounding up and we don’t know exactly when they will be done, to be frank, and on our part we also believe that we should be rational in terms of trying to see reasons with both our brothers in the House of Reps and the sisters in the House of Reps and of course the CBN Governor and to that extent it will appear that on our part we’ll have to adjourn ours and then till Friday the 9th of February,” he added.
Abiru further stressed that the interactive session was moved to Friday, so it could meet with service chiefs to also address some other challenges facing the country
“Tomorrow there is a session with the service chiefs and of course, that might extend to Thursday because it’s also an issue of very serious concern for us. So to play safe and have enough time to also interact properly with the economic team,” he explained.
