The senators were on a condolence visit to the governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Uba Sani, where they pledged a full-fledged investigation into the costly military misadventure
The members of the 10th Senate have announced the donation of N109 million being their December salaries, to the victims of the bombing mishap that took place in Kaduna last Sunday.
This is as they promised not to leave any stone unturned in unravelling the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
This was announced by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North), on Sunday 10th December 2023, at the Kaduna State Government House when he led a high-power delegation of Senators to the state and were received at the Government House by Governor Uba Sani.
Recall that in 2021, the entire members of the House of Representatives resolved to donate their two months salary to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
The decision was agreed upon, barely 24 hours after their Senate counterparts had made an announcement to donate 50 per cent of their salary for same purpose.
Senator Barau, in a statement by his Special Adviser Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, said the money would be sent to the state governor for onward delivery to the victims.
According to Barau, the Senate in partnership with the executive arm of the government would thoroughly investigate the incident and punish those found guilty.
He said, “We are here to represent the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio and indeed, other senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in order to sympathisebwith you and condole you for the lost lives and those who sustained injuries in respect of the unfortunate incident that happened at Tundun Biri in Igabi Local Grovernment Area of Kaduna some few days ago.
“We are all worried. We are all disturbed but the only thing we can say now is for the Almighty Allah Grant those who lost their lives rest and those who sustained different degrees of injuries for Allah allow them have quick recovery.
“We are here to show our solidarity and to show the fact that we stand by the Government of Kaduna State and indeed the entire people of this state, particularly, the people of Tudun Biri in this trying period that the state is experiencing.”

Responding to the senators, the governor called on them to stand with him in promoting justice, emphasising the need for a full investigation and the prosecution of the bombing perpetrators.
Sani blamed the bombing incident on claims that the armed forces and security agencies were not in coordination.
On the other hand, he pleaded with the senators to back the proposal for state police, arguing that it would provide security services with accurate intelligence to prevent such incidents in the future.
Among the senators at the government house who later visited the Barrau Dikko Teaching Hospital where the accidental bomb victims are receiving medical attention were Senate Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central); Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South); and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South).
