Senate Screens CBN governor Cardoso, deputies

In addition to screening Cardoso for the position of CBN Governor, the Senate will also screen two more ministerial nominees.

The Nigerian Senate is set to commence screening for key positions within the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as part of its legislative duties following its annual recess.

Former Chairman of the Board of Citi Bank Nigeria, Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso, is the prominent nominee under the spotlight.

Recall that President Tinubu had previously approved Cardoso’s nomination to assume the role of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on September 15.

The Senate’s resumption Today marks the beginning of this crucial process, which will determine the leadership of the CBN for the next five years.

Alongside Dr. Cardoso, four deputy governorship nominees will also be screened by the Senator Godswill Akpabio-led Senate.

The nominees for the positions of Deputy Governors include Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello. These individuals will join forces with Dr. Cardoso to navigate the intricate financial landscape of Nigeria.

A statement released by the Media Office of the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, announced that the Senate would consider screening Dr. Cardoso at the Committee of the Whole.

The statement further revealed that the screening of two Minister-designates, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim and Mr. Ayodele Olawande, as Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth, respectively, is scheduled for October 3.
