A new 17-Member Board and Management team had last Friday been named by the President and tasked with ensuring a new era of successful administration in the NDDC, in line with his Renewed Hope agenda.
President Bola Tinubu has nominated two former lawmakers in the amended nominations for the Board and Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
As contained in a communication by Presidential Media Aide, Ajuri Ngelale, the new nominees, Hon. Otito Atikase and Rt. Hon. Orok Otuk Duke were named as immediate replacements for Victor Akinjo and Asi Oku Okang as Representatives of Ondo and Cross River States, respectively, on the NDDC Board.

Following protests against their nominated Representatives, however, by members of the President’s party; the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo and Cross River states, the replacements were named.
It is noteworthy that Hon. Akinjo, a member of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP and two-time representative of Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the Eighth and Ninth House of Representatives, lost his third term bid to the APC candidate.

According to the previous statement released by the Presidency, the new NDDC Board will be chaired by Chiedu Ebie from Delta State, while the current Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku – from Bayelsa State retains his position as Managing Director/CEO. Other members of the Management Team are Boma Iyaye (Rivers), who is nominated to serve as Executive Director (Finance and Admin), Victor Antai (Akwa Ibom); Executive Director (Projects), and Ifedayo Abegunde (Ondo); Executive Director (Corporate Services).
Six former lawmakers including the immediate past Leader of the Senate; Ibrahim Abdullahi Gobir, nominated as Zonal Representative (North West), and Ex-Bayelsa Senator, Dimaro Denyanbofa, nominated as State Representative (Bayelsa) were also named as members of the newly-reconstituted Board.
Others include Hon. Namdas Abdulrazak, appointed as Zonal Representative (North East), Hon. Nick Wende, appointed Zonal Representative (North Central) and the immediate past member representing Orhionmwon/Uhunmwunode Federal Constituency; Hon Patrick Aisowieren, appointed as State Representative (Edo). A former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly; Hon. Monday Igbuya, was also appointed State Representative (Delta).
The newly reconstituted Board and Management also has the following members: Abasi Nkono – State Representative – Akwa Ibom; Chief Tony Okocha – State Representative – Rivers. Kyrian Uchegbu – State Representative – Imo, and Chief Dimgba Eruba – State Representative – Abia; all of whom are nominees pending the Senate’s confirmation of their nomination

It is noteworthy that the Senate had in December 2022, confirmed former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Aide; Lauretta Onochie and other nominees sent for its screening as members of the Board and Management of the NDDC.
