Eighty-three (83) days after his inauguration as President, Bola Tinubu formally constitutes the long-awaited Federal Executive Council (FEC). What is the composition of this cabinet, however and how are the Ministers distributed? Find out in this special piece.

President Bola Tinubu on Monday formally inaugurated the Federal Executive Council with the swearing-in of forty-five (45) Ministers into the cabinet; arguably the largest in Nigeria’s political history.

Members of the cabinet who had previously gone through a screening and confirmation process at the National Assembly is a melting pot of politicians, lawyers, diplomats and technocrats with experience from within and outside the country.

In terms of demographics, while there are no Persons with Disabilities (PWD), and no Ministers of Youth age (as classified by Nigeria’s Youth Policy 2019), the cabinet boasts of eight (8) women.

For distribution along the lines of geo-political zones, the North West and South West zones produced the highest number; boasting of nine Ministers (20%) each. The North Central and South South geo-political zones boast of eight Ministers (18%) each, while the North East and South East zones have the lowest representation with seven (16%) and five Ministers (11%), respectively.

Facts on political demography show that 15 (33%) out of the 48 Minister-Designates are Ex-Lawmakers in the National and State Assemblies,  Ex-Ministers are 4 (9%) while Ex-Governors and Ex-Deputy Governors shared 8 (18%) and 2 (4%) respectively.
