Here are the top bills and motions for debate at plenary this week before lawmakers at the House of Representatives.

The National Assembly is set to resume plenary after its Easter and Sallah break. OrderPaper recalls that the resumption was originally slated for Tuesday, April 16, 2024. But it was moved to Tuesday, April 23, 2024, due to the desire by members to resume plenary in the remodelled and restructured main chamber.

The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Rep. Akin Rotimi (APC, Ekiti), in the announcement, said, “The House of Representatives wishes to inform the public and stakeholders of the rescheduling of the resumption date from the ongoing recess, originally slated for Tuesday, April 16, 2024, to Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

“This adjustment is necessary to accommodate the completion of renovations to the main chamber of the House of Representatives to ensure its readiness for plenary sessions, henceforth.”

However, the resumption was shifted again to Tuesday, April 30, 2024, to buy Members more time to carry out their constituency outreach. Rep. Rotimi disclosed this in a statement which read,“The House of Representatives wishes to announce the further rescheduling of the resumption date from the ongoing recess. The new resumption date is now set for Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

“This adjustment, as communicated by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr Yahaya Danzaria, Esq., in an internal correspondence to Honourable Members on Wednesday, is aimed at giving Honourable Members more time for constituency outreach to secure adequate input in the constitution review process.”
