Amidst claims of N3trn budget padding, the Senate was thrown into a rowdy session after Jarigbe’s claim that some ranking Senators got N500m each
The Senate was thrown into a rowdy session over an allegation that the 2024 budget was padded by N3.7 trillion.
The debate was sequel to a motion moved by Senator Solomon Olamilekan (APC, Ogun West), who said his privilege as a senator was breached based on the fact that he chairs the Appropriation Committee which is among the committees that prepared the budget.
OrderPaper recalls that over the weekend, Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central), had alleged that “there was a N3.7trn padding in the 2024 budget.”

This led to a series of debates from Senators who criticised Ningi’s action.
However, the Senate was thrown into a rowdy session when Senator Agom Jarigbe (PDP, Cross River North), claimed that some senators got N500 million in the budget.
He said, “Some older senators got N500 million each, I am a ranking Senator, I didn’t get.
“Let us wash our dirty linen in public.”
