The member from Lagos state is particular about ensuring that the ministry of women affairs and the national women centre deliver services for which budgetary allocations are made
A member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Kafilat Ogbara (APC, Lagos State), has promised that the National Assembly will deliver on its function of effective oversight on the implementation of the 2024 budget.
Rep. Ogbara, who chairs the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, stressed the commitment of both chambers to hold a joint session to ensure proper scrutiny and passage of the budget estimate that will benefit the citizens of Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the presentation of the 2024 budget estimates by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, Rep. Ogbara said: “For the budget implementation this time around, we have agreed to have a joint session in ensuring that we look at the budget, scrutinise the budget properly and also ensure that whatever will be in the budget that will be passed eventually will be what will be needed by Nigerians.
“It must be centered on the needs of Nigerians, putting security forward and, of course, poverty alleviation and also trying to remove the hardship that we think the fuel subsidy removal has caused to Nigerians.”
She, however, promised to oversee the activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) under the purview of her committee, including the Ministry of Women Affairs and the National Centre for Women Development, to ensure that budgetary allocations will be judiciously used.
“We know that Nigerians have a lot of hope in us and they are looking forward for us to make the desired change and dividends of democracy for the peope. We are all looking forward to that and planning in our own capacity as the people’s representatives to get the desired result,” the Lagos Rep stated.
