Ex-senate president Lawan and other ranking lawmakers representing Yobe state recorded zero in the bills chart
As the 10th National Assembly recently clocked one year in office, OrderPaper, in keeping to a five-year tradition, began the publication of the annual performance appraisals which is basically focused on bills processing by members of the Senate and House of Representatives.
According to the detailed analysis which focused on work done between June 2023 and May 2024, the three senators representing Yobe state account for three (3) of the 475 bills sponsored in the Senate. The six (6) representatives from the state account for five (5) of the 1175 bills recorded in the green chamber.
The immediate past President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan representing Yobe North and who is currently serving a 5th term, recorded nil bill within the period under review. Recall that Lawan had sought to be president of Nigeria in the last election but lost the ticket to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). It is notable that he did not sponsor a bill throughout the four years of the previous assembly. Similarly, Senator Musa Mustapha representing Yobe East serving a second term recorded no bill as well.
However, Senator Mohammed Ibrahim representing Yobe South came through for his colleagues as the only senator from the state recording 3 bills. 100 percent of the bills are awaiting second reading though.
In the House of Representatives, Reps. Fatima Talba representing Bangers/Potiskum and Jakduwa Kaikaku representing Bade/Jakusko recorded zero bill.
Similarly, Rep. Khadija Bukar representing Damaturu/Gujba/Gulani/Tarmuwa, who is serving her fourth term and former minister of state on foreign affairs, had nil bill.
Although, Reps. Jajere Buba representing Fika/Fune, Zakariya Zannah representing Machina/Nguru/Karssawa/Yusufari accounted for two (2) bills each, they are still at the stage of first reading. Rep. Ali Shettima representing Busari/Geidam/Yunusları sponsored one (1) bill which is awaiting concurrence from the Senate.
