OrderPaperToday-   Nigerian youths under the aegis of Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth & Advancement (YIAGA) have announced moves to float a platform to demand and monitor accountability from legislators in the country.

In this regard, the group will hold an official media launch of the Young Legislators Accountability Project (YLAPNG)- a platform that hopes to sustain citizen participation in governance in the aftermath of the 2015 elections through issued based engagement with young legislators.

According to the group’s Media and Communication Spokesman Ukachi Chukwu, in a statement, “the project is anchored on four pillars; legislative support, legislative accountability, political mentorship and citizens participation. Through this project, YIAGA hopes to sustain citizen participation in governance in the aftermath of the 2015 elections through issued based engagement with young legislators.

“The media launch will have in attendance young legislators from the National Assembly, representatives of media organizations, civil society and youth groups, development partners and other stakeholders.”

The event is slated for Wednesday January 13, 2016 at Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja at 9am.

The statement said “YLAPNG is an initiative of Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth & Advancement (YIAGA) and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) designed to enhance legislative accountability through effective citizens’ participation whilst building a cohesive young legislators hub for political mentorship, peer learning and capacity development.”
