The legal tussle between the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and that of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Gov. Rochas Okorocha as regards the outcome of the 2015 gubernatorial election in Imo State has no doubt come to an end in favour of Gov. Rochas Okorocha of the APC. While this no doubt is a victory for Gov. Rochas Okorocha, his family, friends and ever dwindling myopic supporters; it is however a huge loss for majority of Imo people who have been praying and hoping that the unprecedented inglorious and impetuous reign of impunity in the State, would be shown the way out.
While we commend the Judiciary for doing their job to the best of their ability so to say, it is however pertinent to note that Imo people wanted justice just as it would have been pacifying if the substance of the case against the Government of the day in Imo was looked into and struck out on that basis. Since this was not done as was expected the Apex court still danced to the tone of the powers of the Federal Government. Suffice it to say that it is a truncation of justice, a decimation of jurisprudential ethics of action and an encouragement of impunity and impudence such that one dare say, is a very wrong precedence. Tomorrow another person shall be President and another shall steal another’s mandate so shall the society continue to grow in an undefined pattern. Now also, the fears and suspicions of so many that the APC led administration is very much interested in installing itself as a one party system in the Country is very much justified.
Be that as it may, this judgement means that Gov. Rochas Okorocha remains the governor of Imo State until the expiration of his tenure. What an unfortunate bewildering reality? Can one see how the whole State has been thrown into a terrible mournful mood? Even those who sabotaged and betrayed Ihedioha thinking he would save himself as he always does are now in the state of dilemma either to return the thirty shekels of silver, hang themselves or join hands with the demonic Leviathan of our time in the State? The whole state has suddenly realized now that we are in a doomsday with Rochas Okorocha as the unchallenged Governor of the State. The message is now very clear; all should now brace up for a demonic rule in the land. This is well illustrated in the lack of jubilation in the State following this ruling. However, this was very much expected given the way and manner in which Mr. Governor has handled the affairs of the State especially since the inception of his second tenure whereby the Government of the day has thrown caution to the wind just as it would be appropriate to say that Imo people are presently being manhandled rather than governed. Let nobody take tomorrow’s road show as a celebration indeed for the spontaneous outburst of joy and even the well planned celebration of some in some quarter if the judgement had gone differently would have left nobody in doubt that indeed liberation had come. Now it is a pity for Ndi Imo as they watch helplessly and haplessly as the decimation sword is being handed to the interloping philanthropist turned demonic tyrant of a Governor Rochas Okorocha in the name of a verdict by the Apex court which one could dare say is a miscarriage of justice and a justification of impudence in Imo state. What a great pity?
Yes, the debt profile of the State has not only risen to an alarming rate but workers and pensioners in the State are still being owed with some running into five months and above even in the face of an unjustifiable bailout fund. The ill-intended concessioning policy of the State Government and the barbaric manner in which the Government is going about it has also been another horrific nightmare to the people. Hunger and starvation has taken over the land for obvious reasons just as insecurity has been on the increase. The health sector, education sector and so many other sectors are presently in comatose with no conscientious effort being made to remedy them. All these and many more seem not to perturb the Government of the day just as the infamous normal culture of lies and deceit as a means of governance has simply skyrocketed.
Imo people were hoping for a breath of fresh air; yes a twist of fate as there is no guaranty the APC Government at the top would allow justice to prevail to its detriment nor that the Government of the day will turn a new leaf towards delivering good governance to the people. In Rt. Hon. Ihedioha, Ndi Imo believed that salaries, allowances, pensions and other entitlements would have been cleared; Most of the Parastatals and sectors would have been resuscitated especially the health and education sectors. Yes, our legislative arm would have been autonomous so would have been our Local Governments. Jobs would have been created and restored as the case may be rather than lost. As a people, we would have had everything to gain because someone has so many things at stake; at least the already built good reputation if for no other thing. That spirit of distinguishing oneself in a chosen career would have been very much aglow and Imo State would have been better off for it.
That Supreme Court ruling is really a stab on the heart of well-meaning Imo people who needed Rt. Hon. Ihedioha to rebuild Imo and take her to greater heights of excellence. Be that as it may, we still look up to him to do the much he can towards helping keep the Government of the day on her toes. Those good intentions which were not achieved today can be achieved tomorrow. It is also a time for Imo people to cut short their complacent attitude towards the governance of the State and demand for good leadership for it is their right. Having said that from today henceforth every Imo citizen should be sympathized for and condoled with for a grave injustice has been instituted in the land. Ndi Imo ndo!!!!
