OrderPaperToday– Senate on Wednesday mourned the late Felix Ibru by observing a moment of silence for the deceased.
The motion on the demise of Felix Ibru was moved by Ovie Omo Agege (Delta Central) and two other Senators from the state who eulogised the late Ibru for his developmental strides as their former governor.
At Plenary, the lawmakers expressed their sympathy for the deceased family and shared their personal experiences of their interaction with him.
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu described Ibru as laying the foundation for growth of the private sector in Nigeria through various business ventures that led to the employment of thousands of Nigerians over the decades.
James Manager (Delta South) said Ibru laid a solid foundation for Delta State when he served as Governor. He also said he was a great businessman who held his family name to high esteem.
“There are so many landmarked projects in his name like the Delta State University, Abraka when he was Governor of Delta state. He was a great businessman of the family and brought fame to his family and Delta state. Ibru was a great believer in democratic processes.
“I had the opportunity to be elected by the good people of Delta South and Ibru was also elected as a Senator at that time. He was a great man.”
Vice-Chairman, Senate Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development said Gbenga Ashafa said Ibru always wanted to be part of anything that will contribute to the development of Lagos State. He also commiserated with his family, the government and people of Delta State.
Subsequently, after observing a minute silence, the Senate resolved to send a delegation to condole with the Ibru family, the people and government of Delta State and to participate in the funeral preparations.
