OrderPaperToday – The Senate has urged the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to give preference to disengaged staff of defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in its ongoing recruitment of 1000 workers.
This decision of senate followed consideration of the report of the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions in respect of a petition by 800 former staff of defunct PHCN against KEDCO for wrongful disengagement and non-payment of benefits and entitlements.
The Senate however tasked the petitioners to continue to liaise with the labour unions that participated in the agreement between the Federal Government and employees of PHCN to resolve all outstanding issues.
Chairman of the committee, Sen. Sam Anyanwu while presenting the report said he had been in touch with the Managing Director of KEDCO saying “as I speak with you, majority of the staff laid off by PHCN have been employed by the company.’’
The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki commended the effort of the committee in ensuring that petitions brought before it were promptly and properly attended to.
