OrderPaperToday – The Senate has resolved to amend the Act establishing the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) to extend the validity of its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to three years.
This followed the consideration of a report by Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND Chaired by Sen. Binta Garba (APC, Adamawa North).

The Senate had in 2015 had mandated the committee to investigate the new JAMB admissions policy and the unification of the all their tertiary institution examinations.
The Senate had specifically directed the committee to include in its report, the amendment of the ACT establishing JAMB so as to extend the validity period for the examination to three years.
The Senate Wednesday accordingly adopted the recommendation that the UTME examination should have a validity period of three years to reduce the financial burden on parents.
The senate also resolved that the examination fees be reviewed downwards to N2500 while change of courses and institutions as well as any other changes surrounding the examinations be made free of charge.
The Senate further resolved that computer laboratories should be built in all higher institutions of learning to aid Computer Based Test (CBT).
However, Senate rejected a move to cut by 70 per cent, the examination cost for National Examination Council (NECO) and the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
Speaking earlier, Sen. Binta Marsi said that most of the Universities had low capacity to accommodate the number of students who seek admission on a yearly basis.
She therefore advocated the establishment of more institutions to accommodate the growing student population.

  1. i think this kind of thing will help a lot of student, expecially student that they wanted to sponsor themselves, please how senator consider this, thank you very much.

  2. Good observation from 8th Senate Assembly, lead by a Distinguish Senate President (Dr) Senator Bukola Saraki

  3. Dat is a welcome development, kudos to d 8th assembly. Also they should scrap d post ume exams & allow JAMB to conduct exams & d admissions too like it use to be in d 70s

  4. Honestly, it is the most logical thing to do. After all, no one sits for degree exam every year while in search of jobs.

  5. Senate ought to have seek d advice of d stakeholders before jumping into ds populist idea just cover to up it own corruption and inefficiency. This move would v a terrible consequences

  6. We thank God DAT at last God make a way for us cos some people DAT make it may fall in another year but glory b to God

  7. Rubbishing academic system, n making d students n young ones lazy, this x not d kind of revolution we need in Nigerian academic system; we need equipments, we need good facilities, we need good libraries, we need conducive environment for learning, we need qualified teachers/ lecturers, etc, our senate should think like learned people, they should think rational, they should consult acadamians when it comes to academic issues, n stop replicating their ignorance! lotters!

  8. Does it mean u have to scramble 3years results together for every year admission? More confusion, more corruption is what i see.

    • it means if u write jamb dis year and u score enough to hav admision, but for som reasons u didnt get admision dis year,u dont need to write anoda jamb for d next two years

    • it means if u write jamb dis year and u score enough to hav admision, but for som reasons u didnt get admision dis year,u dont need to write anoda jamb for d next two years

  9. Valid for three years?! Hmmm. So what will the student be doing while the three years is rolling by? Well, their kids won’t be affected, so………….

  10. Will JAMB comply ? I asked this question because non of the resolutions of the senate have been complied with since jonathan’s regime. We are in Buhari’s era today.

  11. This is good for d students who came frm d poor family and i srongly supported dis Law I hope JAMB will comply with dis new directive now?

  12. Some ignorance people are here opening deir poor wreched mouth to say is a bad development. That is why sum of u will forever remain a slave. They want to help u people reduce d fee and also reduce d stress dat poor people like some of u are passing through every year. And u people are here opening ur dirty mouth to criticize dis perfect development dat is cuming. As for me is a well! Well! Well! Welcome development.

  13. Rather it should be optional /or scraptd afterall universities conduct their exams before admission. Its another way of extortion of poor . Passing jamb doesnt give you automatic admssn.

  14. Naturally the sun shines on those that are standing before iy gets to those petching beside them. This senate should think of laws that are implementable. How will a result that disqualified this in 2016 qualify you in 2018 ?
