OrderPaperToday – The Senate has called on the Minister of Water Resources and other related agencies of government to find lasting solutions to the problems of River Basins in Nigeria.

The senate gave this charge while adopting a two-prayer motion moved by Sen. John Enoh (PD,P Cross River Central,) and Co-sponsored by Sen. Stella Oduah (PDP Anambra South) and 15 other senators during plenary on Thursday.

The relevant MDAs were urged to focus on removing the factors militating against the performance of the 11 River Basin Development Agencies (RBDAs) in Nigeria.

The Senate Committee on Water Resources was accordingly mandated to physically inspect and assess the 11 RBDAs and report back to the senate in 8 weeks.

In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, said that the RBDAs were necessary to grow the agricultural sector in the country.

While presenting the motion, Sen. Enoh noted with regret that Nigeria was yet to attain year-round farming despite its abundant land and river basins.
