OrderPaperToday – Senate President Bukola Saraki has promised to offer a detailed breakdown of the 2016 budgetary allocation to the national assembly.

The federal legislature has always been provided with a one-line charge in the national budget and this has sparked agitations for a more accountable and transparent breakdown of the amount which stood at N150 billion annually for the past few years except the last which was about N30 billion less.

But in a statement by his Special Assistant on Social Media, Mr. Bamikole Omishore, Saraki assured that the 2016 budget would be different as a departure from the past where the issue was subjected to speculations and peddling of falsehoods.

The senate president said the public would know clearly what the Senate, House of Representatives, management and the National Institute for Legislative Studies (NILS) would each get in the 2016 budget of the national assembly.

“That is part of the openness we promised,” the statement said, adding: “As the President of the 8th Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly, I shall be guided by the enormity of the responsibilities that this moment imposes on all of us.”
