OrderPaperToday – President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and his predecessor, David Mark have both expressed shock at the death of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. James Ocholi.

In a statement signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to Saraki, the senate president described the death of the Minister, his son and wife in an accident along Kaduna-Abuja road on Sunday, as a tragic loss.

He lamented that the demise of a “promising Nigerian” like Ocholi was a colossal loss to the present administration in particular and the country at large.

He accordingly condoned with President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), the Governor and people of Kogi State, and the immediate family of the deceased.

Saraki said: “I still recall when the late Ocholi appeared before the Senate to be screened as Minister, he was not only full of life, he came across to me as a man of great ideas.

“He was very articulate in his presentation and gave good account of himself as Senior Advocate of repute, who given the chance, would have contributed immensely to this administration.

“His death and that of his wife and eldest son, is a colossal loss to me, his immediate family, the people and government of Kogi State, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the entire country.”

Senator Mark in a statement by his media assistant, Paul Mumeh, said Ocholi’s death has robbed the nation of a very vibrant, articulate, progressive and fertile mind.

Describing the late Ocholi as a foremost  legal luminary and administrator per excellence who was determined to bring meaningful development to Nigeria, Mark said Nigeria shall miss his “frank, honest, patriotic  and uncommon disposition to the ideals of Nation hood.”

Senator Mark noted that Ocholi left a legacy of hard work, honesty, unwavering commitment  to the ideals of nation hood which he noted should be the guiding principle for every right thinking member of the society.

He prayed that God almighty grant the immediate family, Government and people of Kogi state and Nigerians alike the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

  1. A Benue state house of Assembly candidate that won his election in the November 29 2014 primary election was denied his mandate by some gods fathers. He went to regular court and won his case till appeal court. He was issued a certificate of return that nullified the hitherto member. The rightful winner was supposed to be sworn in ever before now. Still the speaker of Benue state House of Assembly denied receiving any paper from INEC to that effect. The reign of impunity in BSHA should be curtail now.
Pls somebody advice me on how to compel the speaker BSHA to swear in the innocent man that has no gods father to fight for him.
