Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, early Thursday, the House of Representatives has offered to bear the responsibility of airlifting Nigerians who may be stranded in the country.

This development was contained in a tweet shared on the official handle of the Green Chamber on Thursday Afternoon.

“@HouseNGR offer to shoulder immediate evacuation of Nigerians, students from Ukraine.”

According to the tweet, Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, along with Yusuf Buba (APC, Adamawa), Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs will be jetting out to Ukraine, on Friday.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin had early Thursday, announced a military operation in Ukraine, which was followed by reports of explosions in Kyiv, the country’s capital, as well as several other cities, according to AFP correspondents.

“I have made the decision of a military operation,” Putin said in a surprise television announcement

Its foreign minister also warned that a “full-scale invasion” was underway; signalling the failure of talks and pressure by foreign powers on the Russian leader not to invade the East European country.
