OrderPaperToday – Members of the Peoples Democratic (PDP) in the Senate have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately release remaining results in the Rivers State legislative rerun elections.
The senators also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to “support the ongoing commission of enquiry investigating the killings in the Rivers re-run elections with a view to bringing the perpetrators of the violence/killings to justice.”
Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, who spoke on behalf of the PDP caucus at a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja, said its position on the Rivers rerun polls was reached at a meeting on Wednesday.
Akpabio said the caucus resolved to urge INEC to release election results collated from all polling units, wards and local government areas in its possession.
“The caucus condemns in totality the acts of violence perpetrated by enemies of democracy during the re-run elections in Rivers state,” he said, adding however that “the Caucus agreed to send a delegation to visit Rivers State with a view to congratulating the Governor, His Excellency Barr Nyesom Wike on the electoral victories.”
The caucus leader said the visit is also to “commiserate with the wounded and families of people who lost their loved ones in the re- run elections in Rivers state particularly the youth corps member who was slain in the imbroglio.”
The senator said the caucus also asked lNEC to urgently reschedule the lmo North Senatorial rerun election since the 90 days ordered by the court had elapsed.
The caucus, Akpabio said further, urged lNEC to reschedule similar re-run elections in Anambra Central and Kogi East Senatorial districts.
